Abstract
The purpose of this study is to understand the experiences of self-help group of parents who lost their children in the Sewol disaster. This study reanalyzes 16 parents who lost their children due to the Sewol disaster as a study participant, using the interview data for the purpose of the study. As a result of analysis by Giorgi phenomenological methodology, the experiences of self-help group of parents who lost their children due to the Sewol disaster are as follows: 'mutual will become a will and a windbreak', 'having a bereaved family can connect with a dead child', 'families that will save each other with their willingness', 'shouting that this should not happen again because of the broken heart ', 'difficulty coming from another difference in self-help group', and 'the support of the outside people to meet'. Six essential subjects and fifteen exposed subjects were derived. The participants were living their lives through mutual psychological support through self-help groups and tried to connect with activities and communities to reveal their children's death, vowing not to repeat the disaster. There were conflicts within the self-help group, but the self-help group encouraged people with similar sicknesses encountered through self-help groups. Discussions and implications are presented based on the results of the research.
